Domaine Guiberteau

-

A jewel of the Loire valley in the appellation of Saumur

The estate is run by Romain Guiberteau (on the picture right) since 1996. They exclusively work with Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc of about 50-50% proportion. The vineyard covers 17 hectares, in the municipalities of Bizay, Brézé, Chacé, Montreuil Bellay and Saint-Just-sur-Dive.

In the vineyards

The vines are worked organically since 2003 with the utmost respect. Manual harvesting is applied.

In the cellar

The same philosophy applies to winemaking as well. Only natural yeasts found in the cellar and on the grapes are at work. The wines are made with minimal intervention.

The vineyards

The Domaine makes 9 different Cuvées, 5 whites and 4 reds. The age of the vines is between 5-80 years. The most significant single vineyard is the Monopole of Clos des Carmes on the hill of Brézé, which was bought by the grandfather of Romain in 1955. It is one of the “Très Grands Vins de Saumur”,

The wines

The wines show brilliantly the characteristics of cool climate Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Both styles are pure wines of joy, that are perfect gastronomic wines too.
